a university of maryland student two years ago. chris jordan is outside the courthouse with more. chris? >> reporter: corporal baker was found not guilty of second-degree assault. he bowed his head in tears. his lawyer put his arm around him. but, then, the jury foreman announced corporal james harrison, second-degree assault, guilty. harrison showed no emotion. the jury deliberated 6 1/2 hours. the jury deciding that the first officer, corporal baker, used legal force on the student but the second officer who joined in, corporal james harrison used excessive force. harrison is a 22-year veteran tonight. the student who was beaten spoke after the verdict. >> i'm definitely glad that some justice has been done today. it's been a long two years for me and my family. but it was a broader crime committed here and it's been way further than the two cops charged in this trial. so we hope that the department of justice continues their investigation. >> state's attorney angela brooks prosecuted the two officers and prince george's countye sa polic they are partners in protecting the community.

jordan is in northwest d.c. tonight where some homeowners are going to have a lot of cleaning up to do once sandy leaves town. richard? >> reporter: yeah, doreen, we're getting just another strong burst of wind and that's what keeps bringing these trees and branchs down. some of them really small and then just a few minutes ago, this large branch came down. it snapped and just fell. right in front of our eyes. we heard a loud pop and all of the sudden, half the tree was there on the street. and then the real big one, the heavy duty one. that is that giant tree right there. this one fell onto a home here in northwest d.c. you can see the root system there. so imagine what's on the other side. that large tree fell right on to the roof of someone's home and there were two people inside. let's take you to the video. those residents were just fine. they were not hurt. nay say they were just taken by surprise. they say all of the sudden, they heard the wind picking up. it would pick up and calm down. and, in one of those moments when the wind picked up, there came this loud bang and the tree
